Gallantry at the Capital Fringe

Gallantry (1958) is a one-act “soap opera”, complete with commercials, from Douglas Moore (The Ballad of Baby Doe). Another fine production from Opera Alterna. Jeffrey Newberger is the music director, and AMC Clapp handles the stage action.

Gallantry will be playing five dates at the Warehouse (1021 7th St NW):

  • Friday, July 8th @ 10:30pm
  • Sunday, July 10th @ 8:30pm
  • Wednesday, July 13th @ 6pm
  • Saturday, July 16th @ 2:30pm
  • Tuesday, July 19th @ 6pm

It is but one part of the Capital Fringe Festival, which is one of the few good things about living in Washington in July. This is my third Fringe opera in as many years, and it’s always a blast. The Mount Vernon Square and Gallery Place neighborhoods fill up with a smörgâle;sbord of the performing arts; you can go from one venue to the next for an evening or weekend sampling anything that sounds appealing. Admission to any show is $17 plus a one-time fee of $7 for a Fringe button. Advance tickets go on sale June 20th.
